Petit LeMans Qualifing Report, LGMotorsports GT2 #2 quickest

Read the entire article here: http://www.planetlemans.com/2009/09/26/petit-le-mans-qualifying-report/

..."As usual the GT2 cars were first out on the track for their qualifying session. And as we’ve witnessed so often this season it was a battle between the Risi Competizione Ferrari F430 GT2 of Jaime Melo and the Flying Lizards Porsche 997 GT3 RSR of Pat Long.

But soon the first signs of this session not being a usual one were showing. Tom Sutherland in the LG Motorsports Corvette, the Riley car, completed two consecutive fast laps and put the #28 car in first place. Melo meanwhile suffered a puncture that ended his chance of taking pole.

At the halfway point the LG Corvette was still fastest, with the BMW M3 GTR of Müller (#92) and the Robertson Racing Doran Ford GT-R of David Murry closing in. Müller was the first driver to break the 1:21 barrier, but his time was soon improved by Murry in the #40 car...

...And while everyone expected another run for the pole by either a BMW or the Lizards car it was the LG Motorsports Corvette of Sutherland that posted an even faster lap. Sutherland’s time of 1:20.877 moved him into first. But even that wasn’t all of it yet. Behind Sutherland it was David Murry who did his best in the Ford GT-R and in his final flying lap he posted a 1:20.819. Murry then returned to the pit where his pit crew counted down the minutes. With the clock ticking towards 0:00 and the only BMW left out on the track coming into the pit everyone realized that Robertson Racing had done it…pole position for the GT2 class at Petit Le Mans"....*

LG Motorsports Sets new Texas Standing Mile Record for Corvette at 210mph

For the off season from the ALMS series, LG Motorsports took a Corvette Z06 and built it with Twin Turbo resulting in 1200 hp and took it to the "Texas Standing Mile" for a shot at the Corvette record.

Result: New record for a Corvette in the Texas Standing Mile at 210.3 even with tires spinning at will in all but one gear.

According to Gigliotti, "the first run was a little hairy because of excessive lift from no spoilers, but we cured that by lowering the car and closing the air dam in the front to reduce the lift without adding lift."

Dunlop ALMS tires were used because they are a proven tire to be able to exceed the speed easily and safely.

The main thrust behind this effort was spearheaded by Lou's son Louis jr and some Purdue SAE Team members that worked together when Louis and the group were all at Purdue working and building their SAE Project.

"The young engineers fresh out of college and the racing bug have combined to give LG Motorsports a relentless determination to achieve new heights." said Gigliotti sr. While Louis jr admits that, “I have been at one race track or another since I was 4 and even at the 83 Indy 500 when I was still in the womb."

The team is working toward a full season in the ALMS series in their GT2 Corvette C6 for 2009. Talks are underway and decisions will be made soon as to the ALMS plans.

FIRST LOOK AT LGM GT2 CORVETTE #001

“These photos are of various chassis. But, the final build is taking place on the red chassis. Not allowed to release other photos as Riley is still keeping things close to the vest.

We plan to test on the way down to the 12hr, then will hit Sebring next Sat / Sunday (March 8, 2008).

Doug Peterson and I got fitted to the seat today, as well as Marc Goossens. FYI- The pedals are on an electric servo so the "Tall Guy" drivers can fit the car with a touch of a button. I am 5'6, the perfect driver size, while my teammates suffer from being 6'1".

Check out the CRD-built Ferrari-killer LS3 engine! More pictures next week! This GT2 C6 by Riley Technologies will be a sight to behold when complete.”

LG Motorsports Introduces New World Challenge C6 and C6 Z06 hood!

Our ever popular LG World Challenge hood has now been improved for even better performance! Now includes new water trap tray to keep your engine dry even under the worse rain storm. "The way the water trap is designed per the factory method. By this I mean that as water enters the louvers either while siting or driving, the water is directed around the deflectors and is allowed to drain to the front, where it leaves the compartment. This is the way the GM hoods with scoops are made. The water traps (box like feature) is still open with the same square inches of air flow opening for the louvers to be functional but the traps divert the water to the drain holes at the front of the hood, and out of engine compartment. For racing, the air flow could be increased by removing the water trap. The louvers flow just like any "port" and having less obstructions in the path of the air will result in more flow. But having said that, we made sure that the louvers function and remove air from under the hood and help limit lift while at the same time keeping water out of the engine." Lou Gigliotti

LG Motorsports makes the move to ALMS GT2

Lou Gigliotti, 3 time World Challenge Champion, and owner of LG Motorsports in Dallas Texas announced at Road Atlanta that they will be fielding a two car team of Chevrolet Corvette C6s in the GT2 Class in the American Le Mans Series starting in 2008.

LG Motorsports Beats the best in 06

LG Motorsports with Lou Gigliotti driving beat the best but was stopped By a rule change.

After getting 3 poles, 2 wins and leading the most laps in 06, the rules had to be changed to allow the competition to have a chance. The LG Motorsports Corvette C6 had 190 pounds to it which took it out of the fight.

Regardless, the LG Corvette still managed to finish 2nd in the Championship beating the Katech powered GM Factory effort not only in the points but flat out in the last race.

Gigliotti beat the Factory funded Cadillac CTSv race team by one position in the last race which clinched 2nd place for the LG independent Corvette team. Truly a Giant Killer.

In fact, in 2005, the Factory race team had to work a deal with Gigliotti to "Let their driver by" at Mosport while Gigliotti was leading the race. Being a good GM team, Gigliotti let their driver pass and Gigliotti followed them to the finish line in 2nd place inches from the multimillion dollar funded GM race car.

LG Motorsports was instrumental in helping GM capture the Manufacturers Championship in 2005.
